Deckers Careers Intern Spotlight

Northeastern co-op Spotlight:

Tara Deane

Tara moved from Chicago to Boston where she studies Marketing Analytics and Sports Communications at Northeastern University. There she has joined a sorority and participates in intramural sports on campus. Tara is currently a co-op with our Retail QA team!

What would you like to share about your internship experience so far?

Being the Retail QA co-op here at Deckers has been a great opportunity for me so far, especially being my first co-op. Since coming here, I have been able to learn both office environment skills like being able to schedule a meeting with co-workers on other teams, to more IT QA job functions such as understanding the different systems that are integrated to allow for productive business flow. The amount of people I have been able to meet and interact with in my role has by far been my favorite part of the co-op experience. Everyone at Deckers is always willing to meet with you to tell you what their job function is and how they got to where they are now.

What has been your favorite part of living in Santa Barbara as a co-op?

The best part of moving to Santa Barbara is being able to hike, go to the beach, and tan in the winter months. Being able to bike all the time here is also a major plus of being in a smaller city.

Who has been an inspirational leader in your professional life? How have they influenced your career goals, passions and interests?

The owner of the pizza place I worked at the past two years is one of the most personable people I’ve met when it comes to customers and is someone who I aspire to be in the business world. Ennio Sullo manages to make all the employees feel like they are family and wants to know who they are not only as workers, but as well as who they are outside of work. He is the person I thank for telling me to go after a job in the sports marketing field after he noticed my love for football and is always still proud of my accomplishments anytime I visit when I am home. To this day, and I’m sure for much longer, he will have influenced who I am and who I will be.

What are three fun facts you’d like to share?

1. I have competitively Irish danced for 14 years.

2. I am the first-generation college student.

3. I’ve blown out my knee cheerleading in high school.
