Annie Lucia
Annie grew up in Santa Clarita, California. She is currently a fourth-year Communication and Environmental Studies double major at UC Santa Barbara. Annie decided to join Deckers because she wanted to work for a company that is truly passionate about their products, employees, and overall environmental impact. She’s working as a Product Intern on the HOKA ONE ONE team!
What inspired you to pursue an opportunity with product in footwear?
I was inspired to pursue this opportunity after I met a former Product Intern at UCSB’s Career Fair. She talked about how she was able to make changes within her brand’s product line and reduce their overall environmental impact. As someone interested in performance/lifestyle products, marketing, supply chain management, and sustainability, I knew this position would push me out of my comfort zone and allow me to gain experience in all realms.
What would you like to share about your internship experience so far with Deckers on the PLG team?
My internship at Deckers has been one of the most comprehensive and enlightening experiences in my career thus far. I have learned so much about HOKA as a brand, our differentiating footwear characteristics, the running community, and the tedious process that coincides with creating a new footwear concept and bringing it to life. I discovered a newfound passion within me for footwear development. Seeing a shoe in public, that your team helped create, is such an exciting feeling!
Who has been an inspirational leader in your professional life? How have they influenced your career goals, passions and interests?
I am primarily inspired by Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia. Although I am deeply passionate about the environment and its preservation, I am also naturally business oriented. Learning about Patagonia’s success as a corporate sustainability steward, has motivated me to integrate environmental initiatives into traditional business models. Working at Deckers has shown me how sustainability realistically functions in a large corporation and the proper methods one should utilize when trying to implement change.
What are three fun facts you’d like to share?
1. I once collapsed through the top half of a bunk bed and had to get stitches.
2. I only drink my coffee iced.
3. I studied abroad in Florence, Italy last year and lived right next to the iconic Duomo.
